Fact or Fiction: Florida State will make the College Football Playoff

The Florida State Seminoles enter the 2023 season with overwhelming high expectations as Jordan Travis leads the offense and Jared Verse leads the defense.

Mike Norvell is entering his fourth season with the Seminoles, with an 18-16 record. His first two seasons weren’t remarkable as he went 3-6 in the covid-era in 2020 and the following year went 5-7. To say that Norvell and the Seminoles overachieved in 2022 with a 10-3 record is an oversight of the talent that was actually in Tallahassee.

Norvell and his staff have once again made strides in the transfer portal for the 2023 season as they landed Keon Coleman from Michigan State, Jaheim Bell from South Carolina, and Kyle Morlock from Shorter. The Seminoles also added more depth to their offensive line with the additions of Jeremiah Byers from UTEP, Casey Roddick from Colorado, and Keiondre Jones from Auburn.

The negative side to the portal is that the Seminoles lost Mycah Pittman, one of their best receivers to Utah. They also lost Malik McClain to Penn State. Both of which are special playmakers in their own right but the additions of two big tight ends in Bell and Morlock will add depth that just wasn’t there last season offensively. Let’s face it, any opposing defense will have to rely on sole talent alone when facing the Seminoles this year.

With that, I only have the Seminoles losing one time and that is to Clemson. Thus meaning that the Seminoles also make it to the ACC Championship Game and defeat Clemson.

FACT: Florida State will be in the College Football Playoff. If all the dominos fall in the right place there is no reason why the Seminoles should not be in the playoff.
