Should #NCIS Send Out a Search Party for the @HokiesMBB Defense? #Hokies

Greetings, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) men’s basketball fans!!

I’m wondering if NCIS should send out a search party for the Virginia Tech men’s basketball defense?  Case in point – games vs. ACC bottom dwellers (yes, Virginia Tech is one of them now – referring to Boston College, Notre Dame, and Georgia Tech – the Hokies are part of that crowd):

Table 1 – Virginia Tech men’s basketball three-point defense over the last 5 games

Date Opponent  Three-Point Field Goal Attempts Three-Point Field Goal Percentage Outcome
January 31, 2023 Miami 8 of 19 42.1% Hokies L
February 4, 2023 Virginia 6 of 18 33.3% Hokies W
February 8, 2023 Boston College 12 of 24 50% Hokies L
February 11, 2023 Notre Dame 13 of 20 43.3% Hokies W
February 15, 2023 Georgia Tech 11 of 22 50% Hokies L

The defense is tragic, to say the least, but what’s more strange to me is the lack of coaching adjustments.  Where is Mike Young and the coaching staff here?  I like Mike Young – but this really puzzling to me that there are no answers for the defense.  The Hokies only defeated the Irish because it was a race to 100.

The defense just keeps on getting drubbed.  It massively odd that there are no coaching adjustments after one game, even after two games – but to let opponents figuratively drink a beer while they are shooting shots is quite a thing to watch.

Virginia Tech’s at-large NCAA bid hopes are dead.

The only way the Hokies can get to the NCAA tournament is to win enough games to maybe get to the 2nd day of the ACC tournament as their starting point – and then win the ACC tournament for the automatic bid.   This is highly unlikely – in fact – if you look at the schedule, here’s who is on deck:  Pitt and Miami at home, Duke and Louisville on the road, and Florida State at home.  The Hokies will likely be playing in the first day of the ACC tournament.

I maybe see one win in that bunch of regular season games.  Here’s why:  See Table 1 above.

The perimeter defense is among the ACC’s worst.  You can’t expect to compete in the ACC or the NCAA with an awful perimeter defense – and with absolutely no coaching adjustments.

Let the NCIS search party go on the lookout for the Virginia Tech men’s basketball defense.  It might be searching until the end of the first day of the ACC tournament.  I like Mike Young – but the coaching staff has fallen flat here.

I thought VT defeated Notre Dame – but your main point stands.

I realized that right after I posted it and correct it 😉
