Let’s keep it real.
I like Virginia Tech men’s basketball head coach, Mike Young – I think he’s done a good job at Virginia Tech – but I also keep it real:
The Hokies only path to the NCAA tournament might be an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) tournament championship win.
You can’t lose to the Boston College Eagles five times in a row in the Mike Young era. I have no idea what is going on here – but there is a complete lack of intensity when the Hokies take on the Eagles. You wipe out the goodwill of win vs. a ranked University of Virginia. No one can truthfully say that if you get swept by Boston College, that you deserve an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. All kinds of crazy things would have to happen – like all kinds of bubble teams losing – favored teams in their conference championships who generally get one bid losing. As I said, the Hokies likely only path to the NCAA tournament is to win the ACC tournament – and get the automatic bid.
The Hokies have to play Boston College with the same fire they take on North Carolina, Duke, and Virginia.
This an embarrassingly bad loss – and I’m rarely critical of Mike Young, but this is on him tonight. Young has to get his players ready for every game – and that includes Boston College. It doesn’t mean taking a night off vs. the Eagles.
Virginia Tech had to play with the same intensity they did vs. Virginia – and they failed that test tonight.
Let’s be real part two:
No, Mike Young should not be fired. That’s ridiculous.
Thanks,
Matthew
