The ACC’s three biggest men’s basketball questions for week of January 31, 2023

Is Georgia Tech vs Louisville the worst ACC Regular Season Game in history?

We wrote a whole article on this subject Sunday.  The short answer is yes it sure does seem like it.

We were not able to find a worse matchup in the last 25 years that is for sure.

Does North Carolina or Duke come out of the week with huge momentum?

Duke has already taken care of Wake Forest to move to 16-6 (7-4). North Carolina is 15-6 (7-3) playing Pittsburgh Wednesday at home. Should the Heels beat the Panthers, it would set up college basketball’s best rivalry for games with huge NCAA and ACC implications. UNC and Duke have played bigger games with more on the line, but the winner especially if UNC wins Wednesday gets back into the top 25 and gets a leg up for the double BYE in the ACC Tournament.

The winner can also get in position for a top 4 NCAA seed, of course bragging rights, and a ton of momentum.

Can Clemson recover from Boston College’s loss?

Clemson was in a good NCAA position, they only needed to take care of business and avoid crippling losses. Win a few more games and they would be pretty easily dancing. Then they took a devastating defeat at the hands of Boston College, which is their third 175+ NET/RPI loss.

There’s no way to sugarcoat it. That was bad really bad on Tuesday night to lose 62-54 at BC. Games right after BC are Miami at home than at North Carolina. That was going to be tough enough, and now there is tremendous pressure on Clemson to split games with the Canes and Heels. You put a three-game losing streak on Clemson and they go from NCAA Team to NIT in barely a week.

The Tigers better beat Miami, because I don’t like their chances at North Carolina. The Tigers are 12-0 at home so there is that.
