ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips – A candidate for Big 10 Commissioner? CBSSPorts seems to think so.
Phillips was the clubhouse leader last time until the Big Ten presidents made a left turn and picked Warren.
I’ve got a lot of thoughts about Philips, but at the moment I this wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world for the ACC.
We know that Philips’s #1 – #10 ACC priority list is to raise ACC Revenues. We haven’t heard a peep from Philips on just about anything in months. Possibly he’s working on something, but that kind of leadership rarely works in today’s climate.
The conference needs a charismatic, energetic, and aggressive leader. Philips doesn’t seem to really be that kind of leader.
The Big 10 job is an easy one, that even the most mediocre of executives can manage. The Big 10 is cashing checks left and right, even if athletically the conference has had, but a paltry 2 National Titles in a revenue sport this century. It’s a job literally you can’t mess up. Philips may find an easy job more to his liking that Jim Delaney set up for everyone that followed him.
I do wonder if the Big 10 wants him though given his non-descript results as ACC commissioner so far.
If he remains ACC commissioner, we’ll continue to hope for the best that something is in the works to raise ACC Revenues.

After he voted against expanding the CFP and voted for the “Alliance”, I thought Phillips was the assistant commissioner of the Big Ten
