Post-Bowl – ACC Coaching Hotseat rankings

We go from coldest to hottest.

0 – Ice Cold

1 – Still cool

2 – There’s smoke

3 – Getting Warm

4 – On Fire

5 – Start working on the resume

Jeff Brohm, Louisville = 0

Jeff Brohm takes over at Louisville, much to the delight of Cardinal fans.

Brent Key, Georgia Tech  = 0

Brent Key will coach his first full season in 2023. He went 4-4 as interim coach at Georgia Tech.

Dave Clawson, Wake Forest = 0

Another bowl win, and another 8 win season for Dave Clawson. What will life be like for Sam Hartman?

Mike Elko, Duke – 0

A remarkable 9-4 record in year 1 for Mike Elko at Duke.

Pat Narduzzi, Pittsburgh = .5

Pat Narduzzi and Pitt have won 20 games the last two years, but when the Panthers were sitting at 4-4 there were whispers that last year was a fluke. 5 straight wins later and that wasn’t the case.

Tony Elliot, Virginia  = .5

How does Tony Elliot do in year 2 after a 3-7 2022? Year 1 coaches get the benefit of the doubt.

Brent Pry, Virginia Tech – .5

Brent Pry is in the same boat at Tony Elliot – year 1 benefit of the doubt, but don’t have another season where you win 1 ACC game.

Dabo Swinney, Clemson  = .5

Dabo Swinney and Clemson won the ACC, but the Tigers drop from the elite of college football is starting to frustrate some fans. Clemson is on a different grading scale.

Mike Norvell, Florida State  = .5

The hot seat really cooled for Mike Norvell after a 10 win season. They may enter next season as the ACC favorite.

Dave Doeren, NC State = 1.5

Injuries and bad luck led to an underwhelming 8-5 season at NC State. Doeren is fine, but Pack fans wonder if he’ll ever turn it all the way around at NC State.

Mario Cristobol, Miami = 2.5

Even though Miami is recruiting well, the 2022 5 win season was a total disaster.

Mack Brown, UNC  = 2.5

UNC lost their last 4 games to go from 9-1 to 9-5. It wouldn’t take much for Brown’s seat to be real hot.

Jeff Hafley, Boston College = 3

Year 3 is supposed to be the year things turn the corner for a program. Jeff Hafley had his worst season in year 3. Things are kind of heated at Boston College.

Dino Babers, Syracuse  = 3.5

Dino Babers finished right where he started last season with a fairly hot seat. The Cuse finished 7-6, but lost 5 of their last 6 including the bowl game. Babers again needs to show something in 2023 to survive the season.
