ACC Basketball Coach Hotseat Rankings for December 18, 2022

We’ve just started to get into conference season in ACC Basketball. How are those hot seat ranking looking?

We go from the coldest to hottest.

0 – Ice Cold Seat

1 – Still cool

2 – There’s smoke

3 – Getting Warm

4 – On Fire

5 – Start working on the resume

Jon Scheyer, Duke  = 0

Jon Scheyer is his first season, and Duke sits 10-2 and getting better with the passing game. Coach K has big shoes to fill, but Scheyer is doing fine so far.

Tony Bennett, Virginia  = 0

Tony Bennett is as untouchable as there is in the ACC.

Jim Larranaga, Miami = 0

Miami is 11-1 and looks like a definite NCAA team. Jim Larranaga keeps adding to his Hall of Fame career.

Mike Young, Virginia Tech  = 0

Mike Young has followed up his ACC Championship season with an 11-1 start. He’s doing a great job at Virginia Tech

Hubert Davis, UNC  = 0

Hubert Davis is coming off a national runner-up season, and after a slow start, UNC is starting to look right.

Steve Forbes, Wake Forest  = .5

Steve Forbes and Wake Forest keep blowing second-half leads. That’s something to pay attention to. They may miss the NCAAs for the second year in a row.

Leonard Hamilton, FSU = 1.5

Florida State didn’t make the NCAA tournament last year, and they won’t make it this year. Will rumblings start for Hamilton?

Earl Grant, Boston College  = 1.5

Boston College looks like one of the ACC’s worst teams.

Jim Boeheim, Syracuse = 1.5

Syracuse is stuck in neutral as a program… stuck. They have won 5 in a row though and a rough start. They stand 8-4.

Mike Brey, Notre Dame  = 1.5

Mike Brey and Notre Dame made the NCAAs last year, but looks like the Irish are back to what they’ve been the last several years… mediocre.

Kenny Payne, Louisville = 1.5

Louisville’s 0-9 start is not the way to begin a tenure, and already whispers begun. It still is Payne’s first season though. The Cards have won 2 games since.

Josh Pastner, Georgia Tech – 2.5

Jose Pastner has himself another completely average team in his completely average career at Georgia Tech save the 2020 ACC Title. Pastner benefits from the recent football coaching change.

Jeff Capel, Pittsburgh  = 3.5

Jeff Capel shouldn’t feel safe, but he has a team this year you need to pay attention to.

Brad Brownell, Clemson – 3.5

Brad Brownell lives on the hotseat. Clemson had some good moments this year, but there have been some ugly losses too. It could go either way for Brownwell.

Kevin Keatts, NC State = 3.5

Kevin Keatts is in a similar position to Capel and Brownell. At 10-3 you have to pay attention to his team, and it could go either for Keatts as well.
