The playoffs are a fraud if TCU is left out.

TCU lost the Big 12 championship 31-28 to Kansas State Saturday. It was a tough hard-fought game, where a coaching decision by Sonny Dykes to take the ball out of QB Max Duggan’s hands on 3rd and 4th down in OT will be questioned.

It shouldn’t matter though. TCU should be in the playoffs despite the loss. I repeat “should be”.

The committee has a very bad track record of deserving teams vs brand names. Already it’s very likely that Ohio State has backed into the playoffs after USC got thumped by Utah Friday. To allow a second team to back into the playoffs this time Alabama would completely delegitimize the playoffs.

Frankly, it’s pretty unfair that USC gets bounced after losing a conference championship, but there is at least some semblance of an argument there. USC lost twice to the same team Utah and got blown out 47-24 Friday. Ohio State got blown out in their final home game as well to Michigan and hasn’t looked like a playoff-caliber team since early November. Michigan though will be a playoff team.

When it comes to TCU they will have a  better record than Alabama 12-1 vs 11-2.

Alabama’s best win is 1 point win over #20 Texas. TCU has one of those too, and by a wider margin.

TCU earlier in the year beat Kansas State which is a better win than any of Alabama’s wins.

TCU has 5 wins over teams that were ranked when they played. Alabama only has 3.

The only argument you can make for Alabama over TCU is recent recruiting rankings.

It needs to be TCU as the 4th playoff team. It’s the only choice.
