Louisville, back from the dead, crushes Wake Forest.

Think back 4 weeks ago as Louisville was coming off a disastrous 34-33 to a terrible Boston College team.

How terrible are the Eagles? They just lost UCONN.

After that loss, Louisville sat 2-3, with a brutal stretch of football for the Cardinal’s final 6 games. Scott Satterfield, let’s be honest, looked done as Louisville’s head coach.

Something funny happened on the way to the Cardinal’s bowless season and Scott Satterfield getting fired.

Louisville started playing better. The first was win at Virginia. That wasn’t too eye-opening. The Hoos are awful, but a win is a win.

Then the Cardinals got Pittsburgh. Well, they won that one 24-10. Pittsburgh was having issues at QB and was a shell of the team that won the ACC last season, but some confidence was being built up. Certainly against red-hot and top 10 ranked Wake Forest coming to town, the Cards were about to come back to earth.

Not only did the Cardinals not come back to earth, but they are soaring now.

In an amazing performance, Louisville blasted Wake Forest 48-21.

It was arguably the best performance for Louisville in the Scott Satterfield era.

The defense forced a whopping 8 turnovers and held what was regarded as one of the ACC’s top 2 offenses to under 400 yards of total offense. That’s the difference between the last 3 games over earlier in the season. The Louisville defense has suddenly become a real force. The previously maligned unit is creating turnovers and limiting opponent scoring.

We knew Malik Cunningham was good at QB, and that the offense had potential, but they couldn’t carry the team to a bowl or more without the defense coming together.

It has come together, and now Louisville’s season had taken on a different look.

Scott Satterfield to his credit has rallied his team and now next week has a winnable home game against James Madison. Clemson is after that, but we’ve yet to see the Tigers put together a full game. NC State and Kentucky in the Cardinal’s final 2 games will be difficult, but Wake Forest was as good or better than either of those teams.

I don’t think Louisville runs the table, but I do see 2 more wins, and that would get them to 7-5 and chance for an 8-win season.

That would have been unheard of a month ago when most of us had Louisville buried.

Just in time for Halloween, Louisville is back from the dead.
