ACC Atlantic Mid-Season Grades

Syracuse (6-0) – A+

Coming into the season Dino Babers was on the hot seat, and Syracuse was considered one the three worst teams in the ACC. Now they are 6-0 and ranked in the top 15. They’ve been opportunistic and played tough defense. Sean Tucker is a load at RB and the Cuse are thinking big. No team ACC has exceeded expectations more. Dino Babers is your easy first-half ACC COY.

Clemson (7-0) – A+

When you are undefeated, you get an A+. Clemson came within an eyelash of losing to Wake Forest, but they’ve survived some of the toughest games on their schedule. Nobody worries about QB DJ Uiagalelei anymore, and if the defense can start playing to its potential they are a playoff threat.

Wake Forest (5-1) – A

Wake Forest is legit top 15 team. Their offense is the ACC’s best, and they very nearly beat Clemson. The are some questions about the defense, but through the first half of the season, they’ve been the ACC’s second-best team. Dave Clawson has Wake Forest playing really well again.

NC State (5-2) – B

NC State probably needs to be graded on a curve. They were 5-1 losing only to Clemson, before QB Devin Leary’s injury ended his season. They lost at top 15 Syracuse after that. The defense is top-notch, but offense hasn’t been what was expected. They are a good team, but the ceiling is certainly lower without Leary.

Florida State (4-3) – B-

Florida State’s win over LSU and a 4-0 got their fans really excited, before losing to Wake Forest, NC State, and Clemson. The loss at NC State was particularly rough, as the Noles controlled the first half and were set up to win the game before a late-game interception. FSU is trending in the right direction but has let some opportunities slip away.

Louisville (3-3) – C-

Louisville’s opening loss at Syracuse had the Cards going in the wrong direction early. They’ve been inconsistent at best, and it’s landed Scott Satterfield on the hotseat. The second half of the season is going to be much tougher.

Boston College (2-4) – C-

When Boston College lost at home Rutgers you knew BC was in trouble. The offensive line has struggled, and if they hadn’t found a to beat Louisville they would have gotten D or lower. Not much was expected of BC this year, but they’ve been a little worse than most thought. It’s year 3 for Jeff Hafley, and he might be in trouble.
