Pittsburgh
Can Pittsburgh can repeat as ACC Champions? Don’t think it can’t happen? Pat Narduzzi has the Panthers program on solid footing. Last year wasn’t a flash in the pan season. The 2022 Panthers return a ton of talent on both sides of the ball. Yes WR Jordan Addison bailed, and QB Kenny Pickett is gone, but Pittsburgh is deeper than that. Athlon had more than 10 Pitt players on their pre-season All-ACC 1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams. Pittsburgh to get to the next level still has to find a way to avoid the inexplicable loss that they are prone to. That means games like 2021 Western Michigan…
Will Go 11-1 (7-1) if:
They beat West Virginia and Tennessee to open the season. What odds does WV sportsbook have on Pitt winning those games, because they look like toss-ups? OK just winning those two games doesn’t guarantee an 11-1 season, but it truly sets up the possibility. The game at Miami might be the only game Pitt would be an underdog the rest of the way. There’s no Wake Forest, Clemson, or NC State on the schedule. As we’ve said, this is a team that returns a lot of talent, and player for player is one of the 3 most talented teams in the ACC. If either QB Kedon Slovis or Nick Patti can do a decent job at QB, the rest of the team is pretty well set. The defensive line potentially could be very good. The pass defense struggled last year, but if it improves there would be few glaring weaknesses to point to.
Will Go 7-5 (5-3) if:
Pittsburgh starts the season 0-2. Right out the gate, Pittsburgh gets into their schedule with West Virginia and Tennessee. These will be two big-time games, that if Pitt loses could send the season sideways. The floor is 7-5 which speaks to the progress of the Pitt program, but that would be would be a disappointment. Games at Louisville, at UNC, at Virginia, and at Miami will be tricky, and then if Pittsburgh loses one of those out-of-blue games… Watch out. Replacing a QB the caliber of Kenny Pickett would be difficult for any team in the country, and while you can’t expect the same level of play out of the position a big drop-off could be a problem. The pass defense can’t be 115th in the nation again.
