We often look at the ACC’s OOC game, but what about the best conference matchup for the season?
Let’s rank the top 10 best conference games, starting with 6-10.
6) Florida State at Miami – November 5, 2022
That Florida State vs Clemson didn’t make this list or that Florida State vs Miami isn’t a top 5 ACC matchup shows how far the Noles still have to go be their former selves. Miami is even further from its glory days. That said last year as FSU’s season was falling apart, they found a way to beat Miami in an epic comeback. That helped salvage something out of their season, and give FSU fans hope for this year. This is a game that still catches our attention.
7) Miami at Virginia Tech – October 15, 2022
Miami at Virginia Tech should offer a tremendous environment in Lane Stadium in the middle of October. Miami should be 4-1 or 5-0 coming into the game. Mario Christobal gets his first big ACC road contest in a game that will set the tone for the rest of the season for the team that wins.
8) Virginia at Virginia Tech – November 26, 2022
This is a rivalry Virginia Tech has dominated since 2003. The Hokies losing just once in that time, and just twice since 1999. There is just so much intensity to this game, and with two new coaches, it is the kind of game that could be the difference between a decent season and a really good first year for either Virginia Tech head Brent Pry or Virginia coach Tony Elliot.
9) NC State at Louisville – November 19, 2022
NC State enters the 2022 season with enormous expectations and a ton of returning talent, but the game at Louisville could be a trap game. By the time November rolls around, I would expect the Wolfpack to be highly ranked, and/or in contention for the ACC Atlantic. North Carolina is the next week, but a road game with the Cardinals and their talented QB Malik Cunningham is one to keep an eye on. This screams trap game.
10) Boston College at Virginia Tech – September 10, 2022
Boston College at Virginia Tech is quietly a very intriguing early-season ACC game. If you are looking for a couple of ACC teams that could bust out of the pre-season middle of the pack check out this game. Virginia Tech has new coach Brent Pry in his first ACC game. Boston College has some high-quality offensive talent returning with QB Phil Jurkove and WR Zay Flowers. The winner will likely start the season 3-0.
