Boston College WR Zay Flowers stays loyal to school that developed him.

It is hard to criticize a player that transfers for the NIL money. It’s an opportunity that wasn’t there before for college athletes and so more power to them to take advantage.

When an athlete does stay loyal to the school that developed him it’s kind of a comforting story.

Boston College’s Zay Flowers is one of those stories.

Here is the full writeup from ESPN’s Pete Thamel,  which details the offers that came Flowers’s way, and how he handled the situation.

He told ESPN this week that in the three or four days prior to the May 1 portal deadline, he received multiple six-figure offers via intermediaries from name, image and likeness companies to enter the portal and transfer. He said he was told NIL companies would give him $600,000 to transfer to one school and there was another deal that would give him $300,000 to go to a different school.

Flowers declined to name the schools and said none of them contacted him directly, rather the “schools reached to people close to me.” He told Boston College coach Jeff Hafley about the offers and ultimately decided to stay at BC.

Flowers was already a talented player that BC fans loved, but with this story, you can only imagine the loyalty he’s shown to Boston College would only elevate him in the eyes of Boston College fans.
