Clemson’s Brad Brownell not having the off-season he needs.

So in less than a month, Brad Brownell has lost his starting backcourt, 2 assistants, and one of the transfer guards that was supposed to help replace the loss of Dawes and Honor.

When Hunter Tyson decided to return, and PJ Hall showed flashes of being an All-ACC player after a strong to finish to the season, Clemson appeared set for next year.

Then new AD Graham Neff appeared to set higher expectations of Clemson basketball.

This year’s Men’s Basketball season did not meet our expectations nor those of Head Coach Brad Brownell and student-athletes. There were a number of reasons for the results, but we realize this is a bottom-line game. In the days following the ACC Tournament, Coach Brownell and I met several times to discuss the state of the program, potential off-season changes and plans for next year that would return us to the NCAA Tournament.

The departures started soon after.

This is not the off-season Brad Brownell needed to inspire confidence going into a critical season for him in 2022.

The ACC is going to be considerably better next year. UNC and Duke are going to be top 10 teams. Virginia has Kihei Clark returning and you know Tony Bennett will get things right there. Florida State will be improved. Virginia Tech is in good shape.

There are still several months before the college basketball season start so you can’t write off Clemson yet, but you have to wonder how Brownell is going to field the type of team that probably needs to at least get to the NIT and probably the NCAA tournament to make it past next season.
