Post-Bowl – ACC Coaching Hotseat rankings

A few weeks ago we had a mid-season ACC Coaching HotSeat rankings.  Some of those coaches didn’t make it to 2022. After the bowl season, how does ACC Football Hotseat look?

This is what this looked like before the season began.

We go from coldest to hottest.

0 – Ice Cold

1 – Still cool

2 – There’s smoke

3 – Getting Warm

4 – On Fire

5 – Start working on the resume

Dabo Swinney, Clemson  = 0

Clemson has another 10 win season. This is a down season. The improvement shown by Clemson over the last two months could be one of Swinney’s best coaching jobs.

Dave Clawson, Wake Forest = 0

An 11 win season, and one of the best years in Wake Forest history? Dave Clawson is as safe as they come.

Mario Christobol, Miami = 0

Miami got their guy in Mario Christobol, you can’t be on the hot seat if you haven’t coached a game at your new school.

Tony Elliot, Virginia  = 0

Tony Elliot knows what it is like to be part of an elite program coming from Clemson. Let’s see how it translates to Virginia.

Mike Elko, Duke – 0

The former DC at Texas A&M, Mike Elko has a lot of work to do to make Duke competitive again in the ACC. He’ll have plenty of time.

Brent Pry, Virginia Tech – 0

Brent Pry takes over from the failed Justin Fuente era. He’s making staff changes, that Virginia Tech fans seem pleased with.

Dave Doeren, NC State = .5

It’s a shame NC State never got to play UCLA as the Bruins back out of their bowl. The only reason Doeren doesn’t have zero is NC State is still waiting for a signature OOC win, but the Pack seem on very solid footing. They’ll be a pre-season top 20 team.

Pat Narduzzi, Pittsburgh = .5

Pat Narduzzi enters 2022 with his coolest seat since his first year. The Panthers are the current ACC Champions what more can you ask for? There was a string of several 5+ loss seasons, so Narduzzi has to prove 2021 wasn’t a one-hit wonder.

Jeff Hafley, Boston College = 1

Jeff Hafley appears committed to Boston College. It would have been nice to see how the bowl game would have gone. Year 3 for Halfey will you the true direction of the program.

Mike Norvell, Florida State  = 2

FSU got better as the season progressed, but year 3 is coming for Norvell. The Noles need to be significantly better, or the heat will turn up.

Mack Brown, UNC  = 3.5

From top 10 to 6-7 with an ugly bowl loss to a mediocre South Carolina team. UNC fans are starting to lose faith in Brown, but recruits are not which is weird.

Dino Babers, Syracuse  = 3.5

Dino Babers needs to be glad Scott Satterfield and Geoff Collins are taking all the heat because Syracuse has won only 6 games the last two years. They did show improvement from 2020 so that’s something.

Scott Satterfield, Louisville = 4.5

Scott Satterfield needed a bowl win but instead got a lackluster bowl loss to Air Force. This was following beatdown from arch-rival Kentucky. Satterfield has a ton working against him going into 2022.

Geoff Collins, Georgia Tech  = 4.75

Geoff Collins has been at Georgia Tech three years and won 9 games. Collins is lucky he’s getting a year 4. Unless things majorly improve in Atlanta there won’t be a year 5 for Collins.
