After thumping Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh might get a 2nd AP Top 25 vote.

Do you know how you might be pretty darn good? You sleep walk to a 3 Touchdown victory on the road.

That’s exactly what Pittsburgh did Saturday in a 28-7 victory in Blacksburg over Virginia Tech.

Pittsburgh jumped out to a 21-0 lead at the half, and never looked back. At no point after the opening minutes did it feel like the Hokies had any chance of winning this game.

Virginia Tech’s offense and Justin Fuente hot-seat status are one thing, but this is about Pittsburgh.

Chronically inconsistent from game to game the past several years, Pittsburgh looks like the ACC Coastal best most consistent team. Yes there is a loss to Western Michigan, which looked like more of the same after winning at Tennessee, but now the Panthers have back to back road wins where the game was never in doubt.

How Pittsburgh entered their game with 1 top 25 AP vote was pretty stunning. There are plenty of ACC media members, and even Pittsburgh beat writers who seem to be sleeping on the Panthers. The coaches, though know a good football team when they see one, and had Pittsburgh at 29.

If QB Kenny Pickett isn’t leading the ACC POY race, he’s running neck and neck with Virginia QB Brennan Armstrong. He’s even getting darkhorse Heisman buzz.

Pittsburgh has a tremendous opportunity to win 10 games as they will be favored in every single remaining game this year other than Clemson next week. Clemson currently is 1 point favorite against Pittsburgh, but that is basically a pick’m, and frankly going into the game it is Pittsburgh’s to lose.

Clemson for all their defense prowess even with multiple injuries, simply can’t move the ball against any Power 5 team they face. There is no reason to think that will change against a Pitt team that’s given up just 35 points in it’s last 3 games.

When there are four 2 loss teams in the top 25, Pitt should have had more than 1 AP Top 25 Vote last week.

After this week, they might get 2, and if they beat Clemson maybe they’ll get 4 or 5.

Keep ignoring Pitt, and Pat Narduzzi will use it every week as motivation for his players.
