Syracuse
Following the 2018 season, Syracuse was one of the talks of the ACC. Syracuse and Dino Babers were coming off a 10 win top 15 season, and it seemed the season was setting the stage for a really good future. Two years and six wins later, there are serious questions starting up about the direction of the Orange program. Babers has been at Syracuse for five years, and outside of the 2018 season has gone an ugly 14-33. We know Babers can coach, but can he lead Syracuse back out of the bottom of the ACC?
Will go Syracuse 7-5 (3-5) if:
The Orange start the season 4-0. Syracuse begins the season with Ohio, Rutgers, UAlbany, and Liberty. Syracuse may be able to work with a 3-1 start, but anything worse is a major red flag towards the rest of the season. The offense was a total trainwreck last year, and well so was the defense. Both ranked in 100s nationally. The offensive was terrible, and if it can just be average unit in 2021 that could be a world of difference. QB Tommy DeVito has ability, but just needs some time in the pocket. The schedule isn’t really that bad overall – it all depends on the start.
Will Go 2-10 (0-8) if:
Syracuse at all resembles the team from last year, and this could get real bad for Syracuse. I mean really bad. I can certainly see a scenario where Syracuse goes winless in the ACC. The non-conference schedule isn’t bad, but in the Atlantic there isn’t really an awful team, and the crossover opponents Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh aren’t easy. Who exactly should Syracuse feel fully confident against. Significant improvement on both sides of the ball is a must.
