What I didn’t expect was such a uncharacteristically sloppy effort from the Deacs. Under Dave Clawson, Wake Forest doesn’t always win, but they seem to rarely beat themselves. Wednesday Wake Forest handed the game to the cleaner playing Wisconson Badgers in an ugly 42-28 loss.
Up 14-0, Wisconsin went on a 42-7 run with tons of help from Wake Forest QB Sam Hartman. The typically reliable Hartman missed open receiver after open receiver all day. Then the interceptions started, and he threw four in 2nd half.
He looked confused, tentative, and lost in today’s bowl game. He threw 3 TDs and for over 300 yards, but I’ve never seen him play worse overall.
It’s the kind of performance, that can wreck a QB’s confidence. Dave Clawson is a very good coach, but he’s going to be spending a lot of time in the off-season getting Hartman’s head right.
