Predicting each ACC Bowl Game

Tuesday December 29 5:30 PM

#18 Miami (8-2) vs #21 Oklahoma State (7-3) – Cheez It Bowl

Miami got wiped out by UNC in their last game. Oklahoma State doesn’t have the star power UNC does especially with Chubba Hubbard opting out, but it’s still a potent offense. I think after losing in such a fashion to the Tar Heels, Miami will be out to prove something. The Canes don’t want another year end collapse. With D’Eriq King returning, he’ll want to set the tone for next season. I like the Miami in a close competitive game.

Wake Forest (4-4) vs Wisconsin (3-3) – Duke Mayo Bowl

Wisconsin certainly didn’t expect to be 3-3 at this point. Wake Forest is probably feeling better about being in this bowl game. The Badger’s offense is a mess, but I’m not sure the Deacs can handle Wisconsin in the trenches. If Wake Forest can get things speeded up, they’ve got a shot. I don’t think Wisconsin will let that happen.

#4 Notre Dame (10-1) vs #1 Alabama (11-0) – Rose Bowl

Notre Dame deserves their spot. They are one of the four best teams in college Their reward? An Alabama team that offensively looks unstoppable. The Irish will need spectacular game from QB Ian Book to stay in this one. They won a shootout with Clemson earlier in the year, but that’s not something the Irish typically want to do. If the Irish defensive front can force the issue, and it’s the best Alabama has faced, they have a shot. I just don’t see Notre Dame pulling this off.

#2 Clemson (10-1) vs #3 Ohio State (6-0) – Sugar Bowl

If Clemson plays their best, Ohio State isn’t beating them. Clemson is better across the board. Ohio State has played a disjointed stop and start schedule, and has looked uneven at times. They are not the team they were last year. That said there’s still enough talent at Ohio State to knock off Clemson if the Tigers have an off game. Judging by their game with Notre Dame, I don’t see that happening. Last year Clemson beat a far better Ohio State team.

Clemson 31 Ohio State 20

#23 NC State (8-3) vs Kentucky (4-6)  – Gator Bowl

Dave Doeren is your real ACC COY and has done a wonderful job in Raleigh this year. NC State also possesses one of the best non-conference wins the year over a fine Liberty squad that just beat Coastal Carolina. Kentucky is not a good offensive team -period. That sets up poorly against an active NC State defense. I expect a very motivated and ready NC State team. I also expect a win.

NC State 24 Kentucky 10

#13 North Carolina (8-3) vs Texas A&M (10-1) – Orange Bowl

A fully equipped UNC team against Texas A&M would have made for a great Orange Bowl. Several of the Heels best players are opting out which is obviously their right, but that will create problems against the Aggies. Texas A&M will be the best team the Heels have faced in the trenches outside of Notre Dame. Sam Howell is still there at QB, and UNC still has weapons but this may be too tall an order for the Tar Heels.
