No reason to put Texas A&M in playoff over Notre Dame.

Well the playoff are virtually locked. Alabama is currently ahead of Florida. That’s your #1 seed. Clemson looked the part of an elite team crushing Notre Dame 34-10. That’s your #2 seed. Ohio State looked shaky against Northwestern. I have a problem with their 6 game schedule, but the committee won’t leave them out.

An undefeated Cincinnati really should get that 4th spot, but the playoff committee is going ensure a group of 5 team never makes the playoff… period. There is no schedule, no series of upsets, nothing that will ever allow a group of 5 team in. It’s wrong and it’s sad, but the committee has made their position clear.

That leaves the final playoff spot between Texas A&M and Notre Dame.

Let’s compare resumes.

Games Played

Texas A&M is 8-1. Notre Dame is 10-1.

Jimbo Fisher’s argument about playing more games works against him as the Irish have played 2 more games.

Advantage – Notre Dame

Championship Game

Texas A&M did not make theirs, and Notre Dame did. Penalizing a playoff contender for making a championship is a bad precedent. The committee took criticism a few years back when Auburn missed the playoff after losing to Georgia in the SEC championship and an Alabama team they beat got in.

Advantage – Notre Dame

Best Win

Notre Dame beat Clemson who have been ranked in the top 4 all season. Texas A&M defeated Florida. We know the Gators got beat by a 5-5 LSU team as a 20+ point home favorite.

Advantage – Notre Dame

2nd Best Win

Notre Dame has a 31-17 win over Top 15 ranked and Orange Bowl Bound North Carolina. Texas A&M doesn’t have a second ranked win.

Advantage – Notre Dame

Loss

Notre Dame has a 24 point loss to Top 3 ranked Clemson. Texas A&M has a 28 point loss to Top 3 ranked Alabama.

Advantage – Notre Dame

The next reason I hear for Texas A&M to be in over Notre Dame would be the first one.
