ACC 2020 Football Schedule

North Carolina
Let’s be honest many of us thought the hiring of Mack Brown at UNC was a bit of novelty. Sure he was great in the late 90s at UNC, and won a national title at Texas, but years out of coaching would this experiment work? So far – it couldn’t have gone much better. UNC came within a play of beating Clemson, won their final 3 games, and is tearing it up on the recruiting trail. Brown has injected an energy and optimism not seen in Chapel Hill since the last time he was there. Even with Notre Dame in the mix, UNC still might be the ACC’s second best team.

Will Go 10-1 (9-1) if:
The offense is as good as it looks on paper. North Carolina’s offense is loaded and I mean loaded. QB Sam Howell had a spectacular freshman season throwing for 38 TDs and just 7 interceptions. He has All-ACC caliber running backs in the backfield in Michael Carter and Javonte Williams, the Heels return two 1000 yard receivers Dazz Newsome and Dyami Brown. With Clemson’s inexperience at receiver, UNC might have the best overall skill position talent in the ACC. The defense seems like a question mark, but it was a top 50 unit last year. They have some tests throughout the season, but UNC could find themselves 9-0 when they host Notre Dame.

Will Go 7-4 (6-4) if:
The Heels can’t figure out how to win close games. Last season UNC went 3-6 in games decided by a TD or less. You don’t know if a team can close games out consistently until they actually do it. That’s a question mark for UNC. While the Heels have talent, it’s not enough especially on the defensive side of the ball to just overwhelm teams. They could find themselves in a handful of shootouts, and then are we sure UNC is at that point to pull the majority of those games out yet?
