Boston College
The completely mediocre Steve Addazio era at Boston College is over. Under Addazio, Boston College was rarely terrible, but never great. Addazio never got Boston College above 7 wins either. In comes former Ohio State assistant Jeff Hafley. Hafley is tasked with getting BC over the hump Addazio never could, and might have the ACC’s best offensive line this season to get things started.
Will Go 7-4 (6-4) if:
The quarterback position takes a major step forward. When your passing offense is ranked is 113th in the country, unless you’re running Paul Johnson’s triple option offense, you are going to struggle. The BC offense scored 7 points or fewer in 3 of their last 6 games. There will be no AJ Dillon to carry the offense this year. If the passing game improves, then David Bailey is still a quality RB and behind a very good offensive line the offense could be a load to deal with. The defense was dreadful last season, and could be an improved unit with Hafley who knows defense.
Will Go 3-8 (2-8) if:
The schedule proves too much and the defense is anything like it was last year. The conference schedule is quite difficult. Clemson, Notre Dame, UNC, Louisville and at Virginia Tech. All 5 games could be losses. BC won’t be favored in any of those games. There’s not a conference game, that I really feel confident about with BC other than maybe Georgia Tech at home. Other than the O-Line, and a good LB crew, there are a lot of questions with Boston College’s team. It’s not a stretch to see a long season occurring.
