Duke
For just the second time since 2011, Duke didn’t make a bowl game after a 5-7 2019. They haven’t had two consecutive losing seasons since 2010-2011. David Cutcliffe has been of the better coaches in the ACC for more than a decade, and it’s hard to see Duke having another losing with Cutcliffe at the helm. Duke is certainly one of the teams this year I expect to rebound.
Will Go 7-4 (6-4) if:
The passing games comes alive. 2019 was not a typical David Cutcliffe Duke offense. The offense was 114th in the country, with a passing offense was 110th. Clemson transfer Chase Brice, I believe is the favorite to win job, and under the tutelage of Cutcliffe the offense should flourish. The defense has some talent. Chris Rumph is a NFL caliber DE and forms strong tandem with fellow DE Victor Dimukeje. The opening game against Notre Dame will be tough, but before North Carolina on November 7, Duke could still go anywhere from 4-2 to 5-1. Boston College, and Virginia Tech are swing games. After them at Syracuse, at NC State, and Charlotte are not overly difficult.
Will Go 4-7 (4-6) if:
The offense is again a total mess. We told you Duke was 114th in offense last year. If that continues, it’s going to be very difficult for Duke’s defense to carry the Blue Devils. The defense is a decent unit with some talent, but not it’s not capable of lifting Duke to a winning season alone. An 0-3 start could sink the season quickly. Notre Dame is likely a loss in the opening game, but Boston College and Virginia Tech even in Durham could be very tricky. BC and VT are early games that Duke needs at least a split. The could define Duke’s season.
