Ranking the Top 50 football players in the ACC for 2020. (1-5)

#StayHealthy and practice social distancing

Well we are still hoping there will be a college football season. There are plenty of posts regarding the probability of that, but if there is we’re going to have top 50 ACC players ranked for the season. We’ll largely take our top 5 at each position rankings for 45 of the 50.

Players 6-10 | Players 11-15 | Players 16-20 | Players 21-25 | Players 26-30 | Players 31-35 | Players 36-40 | Players 41-45 | Players 46-50

1) Trevor Lawrence, Clemson – #1 Quarterback in the ACC

Trevor Lawrence is 25-1 as a starter. He’s led Clemson to two ACC Titles, two playoff appearances, and is 3-1 in the playoffs with a national title.

He would have been a top 3 NFL pick in his freshman and sophomore seasons. He will be a top 3 pick this year, and will likely be the number one pick if he comes out his junior season which we all expect. He didn’t throw an interception in his final 8 games in a season he threw for 3665 yards with 36 TDs and just 8 interceptions.

2) Marvin Wilson, Florida State – #1 Defensive Lineman in the ACC

Christmas came for FSU when arguably the nation’s best defensive lineman Marvin Wilson returned for his senior year. the DT Wilson enters 2020 as a consensus pre-season All-American. He had 44 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks in just 9 games. Wilson is projected to be a top 15 NFL pick. He’s good, really good.

3) Travis Etienne, Clemson – #1 Running Back in the ACC

Travis Etienne was the ACC’s number one running back in 2019, and he is again going into the 2020 season. To the surprise of many he returned to Clemson for his senior year. He ran for 1,614 yards for an outstanding near 8 yards per carry. He also had over 400 yards receiving.

He enters 2020 as arguably the best running back in all of college football, and is a near certain 1st round NFL pick.

4) Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech – #1 Cornerback in the ACC (Prior to Opt Out)

Virginia Tech’s Caleb Farley and Jermaine Waller, who will see later on this list, form the ACC’s best CB tandem for 2020. Farley was 2019 1st team All-ACC that led the conference in passes defended with 16. He is projected as a 1st round NFL pick, and some NFL scouts think he could be the first CB taken in the 2021 NFL draft.

5) Sam Howell, North Carolina – #2 Quarterback in the ACC

The reigning ACC Rookie of the year is North Carolina’s QB Sam Howell. Howell had a fantastic freshman season with stats very similar to Trevor Lawrence. Howell had over 3600 yards in the air with 38 TDs and 7 interceptions. Howell reminded me of Matt Ryan when he was at Boston College the way he effortlessly handled blitzes that were thrown at him – as a freshman.

This might be the best pair of ACC QBs since Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson.
