The @ACCDN doesn’t get the top 10 ACC teams since 2000 quite right.

The @theACCDN took a stab at the top 10 ACC Teams since 2000. The 2013 FSU vs the 2018 Clemson debate for the number 1 spot is a worthy one. @mattzemek compared the two back in 2019.

Clemson 2016 at #3 certainly makes sense, and Clemson 2015 at #4,  Clemson 2019 at #5, and Clemson 2017 at #6 are fine in some relative order. FSU 2014 at #7 sounds about right too, though you could argue they could have been a spot or two higher.

At 8, 9 and 10 is where I begin to have some real issues.

At 8 @theACCDN had the 2007 Virginia Tech team. I wouldn’t even have that Virginia Tech among the top 3 Hokie teams of the decade. They lost 48-7 to LSU, and had two other losses. At 8 and 9 I would have went with the 2005 Virginia Tech team and 2004 Virginia Tech team. The 05 Hokie team led the nation in total defense, and didn’t lose to a team that finished outside the top 25. Of the 4 teams ranked at the time they played them, they won 3 of them by double digits. This team beat #16 Louisville in the Gator Bowl.

The 04 Hokie team held 10 of the 13 teams they played to under 17 points. Two of their losses were to teams that finished #1 and #2 at the end of the year. That was USC and Auburn.

At #10 I would have the 2014 Georgia Tech team. The best non-Clemson non-FSU ACC team of the 2010s. They finished the season going 3-1 against teams that finished in the top 15. That included a road win at top 10 Georgia and an Orange Bowl bowl win over a then top 10 Mississippi State team that was ranked #1 for several weeks. Many said Georgia Tech by end of the year was playing as well as non-playoff team in the country.

Sorry Wake Forest 2006, it was a fine season but they ended the outside the top 15 while teams 8, 9 and 10 were all top 10 teams.
