The ACC’s 50 best Out of Conference Football wins of the 2010s (26-30)

This was a series I was going to work on in May, but the off-season started earlier than we wanted.

Games 1 – 5 | Games  6 – 10 | Games 11 – 15 | Games 16 – 20 | Games 21 – 25 | Games 31 – 35 | Games 36 – 40 | Games 40 – 45 | Games 46 – 50

26. Pittsburgh 35 vs #15 Central Florida 34 – September 9, 2019

Central Florida came into this September 2019 game with Pittsburgh having not lost a regular season football game since 2016. That was 27 straight regular season wins for the Golden Knights. On a 4th and 2 with 56 seconds remaining the Panthers scored the go-ahead TD for the stirring victory after being down 31-21. It was one the biggest wins of the Pat Narduzzi era. Central Florida went on to win 10 games and finish in the top 25.

27. #20 Syracuse 34 vs #16 West Virginia 18 – December 18, 2018

Syracuse finished off on their best seasons in program history with a 34 – 18 route of #16 West Virginia in the 2018 Camping World Bowl. In 2018 the ACC, outside of Clemson, didn’t have  a lot of quality OOC wins. This was the best non-Clemson OOC win of the season. Syracuse head coach Dino Babers guided Syracuse to 10-3 record and a top 15 finish. QB Eric Dungey threw for over 300 yards and finished off one of the better QB careers ever for the Syracuse Orange.

28. #25 Florida State 18 Notre Dame 14 – December 29, 2011

Who was the last team to defeat Notre Dame, before Alabama did in the 2012-2013 BCS National title game? It was the Florida State Seminoles. This was the ACC’s best bowl win of 2011, and got the Noles into the national title discussion to start the 2012 season for the first time in several years. In only his 2nd year and Florida State, this game proved that the Noles wouldn’t start backing up after a 10 win 2010.

29. Miami 24 #16 Ohio State 6 – September 17, 2011

This win could have been higher on this list but the Buckeyes collapsed to a 6-7 season. Coming into the game though Ohio State had won 24 of their previous 26 games. It was Al Golden’s first marquee win and seemed to have set the foundation for the future of his tenure. Year’s later the game wasn’t the stepping stone for Golden some expected, but at the time it was an upset that stunned the college football world.

30. Wake Forest 55 Texas A&M 52  – December 29, 2017

Wake Forest gave hope to every school in the ACC, that upward mobility is possible. Wake Forest finished 2017 with an 8-5 record playing in a division with 2 recent national title winners and with the reigning Heisman Trophy winner. The season was capped by beating a Texas A&M team with more resources than all but a handful schools in college football. Wake Forest is one of smallest programs in FBS, but that didn’t matter in the 2017 Belk Bowl. It was was one of the best bowl games of 2017.
