The ACC’s 50 best Out of Conference Football wins of the 2010s (36-40)

This was a series I was going to work on in May, but the off-season started earlier than we wanted.

#StayHealthy and practice social distancing.

Games 1 – 5 | Games  6 – 10 | Games 11 – 15 | Games 16 – 20 | Games 21 – 25 | Games 26 – 30 | Games 31 – 35 | Games 40 – 45 | Games 46 – 50

36. Georgia Tech 28 Georgia 27 – November 26, 2016

For Georgia Tech winning in Athens is always special. Back in 2016, Georgia Tech won it’s 2nd game in a row at Georgia for the first time since the 1998, 2000 seasons. Qua Searcy leapt into the endzone on a broken play in the last minute as the Yellow Jackets rallied down 13 in the 4th quarter in front of a stunned Bulldog crowd.

37. Virginia 42 Boise State 23 – September 22, 2017

Winning at Boise State is not easy. Boise State lives to beat Power 5 schools. That did not happen on this day. Virginia played one their best games in years in wiping out the Broncos 42-23. It helped Virginia to a 5-1 start, and it was Bronco Mendenhall’s first signature win at Virginia.

38. Virginia 17 Penn State 16 – September 8, 2012

Virginia finished 4-8 in 2012, but they pulled off a stunner back in 2012 beating Penn State 17 – 16. This Penn State team went 8-4 and 6-2 in the Big 10. It was Mike London’s biggest win during his tenure at Virginia. At a time when the ACC was desperate for quality OOC wins, this quietly was one of the better ones of the early 2010s.

39. Louisville 31 Notre Dame 28 – November 22, 2014

This Louisville victory over Notre Dame was the Cardinal’s first big OOC win as an ACC member. This was a Notre Dame team that got ranked as high as #5 earlier in the season, and finished the season 8-5. On the road, and down in the 3rd quarter the Cardinal’s came back for the win. Brandon Radcliff had 136 yards on the ground for Louisville in the game.

40.North Carolina 30 Tennessee 27 – December 30, 2010

Back in 2010, the ACC struggled for any Power 5 wins especially against teams from the SEC. North Carolina’s in the 2010 Music City Bowl got hard earned OT victory over the Tennessee Volunteers. It was season that ended on high note for the Tar Heels after year of dealing with a NCAA investigation. It turned out to be the last game Butch Davis would coach at UNC, but he left with a thrilling victory on game winning kick by Casey Barth.
