The Orange Bowl will select the highest ranked non-playoff ACC Team, and if they are in the top 25 the Orange Bowl will select a team.
Clemson (11-0, 8-0)
The Orange Bowl isn’t even on Clemson’s radar screen. The Tigers are thinking playoffs and only playoffs.
Wake Forest (7-3, 3-3)
Wake Forest is hanging on to their Orange Bowl hopes by a thread. They are trending in the wrong direction, and too many Coastal Teams are now in the mix. I’m ready to drop Wake Forest from the discussion completely, but if they get to 9-3 they’ll get a brief look.
Virginia (7-3, 5-2)
Virginia is squarely in the mix for the Orange Bowl. They’ll cruise by Liberty setting up a huge matchup with Virginia Tech. If everything holds to form, that game will be the Coastal Division Title. I expect a 9-3 winner to be ranked 20-24, and they won’t be penalized for getting beat by Clemson in the ACCCG.
Virginia Tech (7-3, 4-2)
The Hokies are red-hot and beat Georgia Tech so bad (45-0), Geoff Collins called the Hokies the best roster he’s faced since Temple. Yes that Temple… I’m sure he meant Clemson. That said the Hokies have to deal with a good Pitt team this week that has their own Orange Bowl hopes.
Pittsburgh (7-3, 4-2)
Should Pittsburgh beat Virginia Tech and BC, they should be a ranked team and will definitely get a hard look. Could they overtake a 9-4 Coastal Division champion? If Pitt beats Virginia Tech and Virginia Tech beats Uva, they would be Coastal Champions and get the Orange Bowl. Thanks to @oaklandzoo22 for pointing out Pitt could still win Coastal.
Miami (6-4, 4-3)
Miami at 8-4 would be mighty attractive to the Orange, if there aren’t any ranked ACC teams. FIU and reeling Duke are all that stand in Miami’s way. The Cane’s likely won’t be ranked, but need Virginia, Virginia Tech and Pitt to all drop a non ACCCG game.

So, for Miami to play in the Orange Bowl they’d need VT to lose to Pitt, then VT beat UVA, then Pitt lose to BC, all while Miami wins their last two… yeah, that ain’t happening! If all that happens except Miami loses a game AND Wake runs the table, then the Deacs are in… in their dreams, that is!
