Washington, DC Slowly Becoming a Sports Town

Good evening, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans.  I’m going to step out of the ACC tonight and talk some Washington, DC (we call it the DMV) sports.

So, I’ve been in the DMV area longer than any place I’ve lived in my life – and, while I’m not quite all in yet on DC sports, the culture is beginning to rub off on me.

Let’s talk about some of the good things that have happened in the last couple of years:

FWIW, the Washington Valor (now defunct) won the Arena League football title.  Okay, say they were a two win team – but they still wonAnd it looks like DC might get an XFL team.

I think some Washington Wizards fans feel like that franchise might be moving on to bigger and better territory because team president, Ernie Grunfleld, is outchea – they might feel like the won a title because Grunfeld is gone.  I think Wizards will make their next steps.

If we’re talking college here, too, then you gotta talk hoops.  The Maryland Terrapins are going to have a really good hoops team this year – might make the Sweet 16.  And Patrick Ewing is making Georgetown better (friend of the site, @Brauf23 of @BustingBrackets has Georgetown finishing as high as third in the Big East this year.  Look out, kiddies – this is only Ewing’s 2nd year).

So is DC a sports town?  Not quite yet – but it’s making some good moves.

Note:  Please note I didn’t talk about the Washington Redskins because they are a trash ass franchise with an awful general manager (Bruce Allen) and a team owner (Daniel Snyder) who are both in way over their heads.  Snyder needs to sell the team ASAP.
