2nd Half Predictions for each ACC Atlantic Team

We haven’t quite reach the the mid-point of the college football season for most ACC teams. North Carolina and Pitt are there, but the rest have 1 more game to go.

After seeing 5 or 6 games of each ACC Atlantic, though I’m ready to already start predicting the 2nd half of the season for the ACC Atlantic teams.

Clemson

Current (5-0, 3-0)

Predicted (12-0, 8-0)

Clemson was just rolling along until they ran into UNC. They were fortunate to survive. That said the defense hasn’t given up more than 20 points to any opponent, and the offense is too talented to continue to be inconsistent. Clemson got their wake-up call, and I expect the Tigers start building momentum towards the playoffs now.

Wake Forest

Current (5-0, 1-0)

Predicted (9-3, 5-3)

No team  ACC team has been more consistent in the 1st half season. QB Jamie Newman might be the offensive MVP of the ACC in the 1st half. Am I underselling Wake Forest to think they may go 4-3 in their last 7 games? Florida State might still be more talented. Clemson is a loss, and games at Virginia Tech and Syracuse could be tricky.

Florida State

Current (3-2, 2-1)

Predicted (7-5, 5-3)

Florida State is two bad quarters of football from being undefeated. The offensive still has issues in pass protection, but they are an improved team. If the schedule wasn’t so difficult, they could be an 8+ win team. With Florida and Clemson, that seems like two sure losses. The Noles just aren’t good enough to run the table with the rest of their schedule.

Louisville

Current (3-2, 1-1)

Predicted (5-7, 3-5)

Scott Satterfield has done a great job even getting Louisville to think about a bowl game for this year. The schedule though, will keep them from reaching that goal though. Louisville’s next three games are at Wake Forest, Clemson, and Virginia. Next year will be a bowl game, and the year after the top 25 – Mark it down.

Boston College

Current (3-3, 1-2)

Predicted (4-8, 2-6)

This season will probably be Steve Addazio’s last at BC. When the Eagles got blown out by Kansas at home, it was time to panic for Boston College fans. The secondary and defense are among the country’s worst. If Boston College doesn’t beat NC State on October 19, they may not win another game this year.

NC State

Current (3-2, 0-1)

Predicted (6-6, 3-5)

If NC State makes a bowl game, it will be by the skin of their teeth. The QB situation is a mess, and the pass defense has been inconsistent at best. I expect wins Louisville at Georgia Tech on the road, so the Wolfpack will need 1 more win somewhere to make a bowl game.

Syracuse

Current (3-2, 0-1)

Predicted (7-5, 4-4)

Syracuse’s season was derailed when a mediocre Maryland blew them out. Defensively they’ve been a huge disappointment. I still think Dino Babers can salvage something out of the season though. There’s talent on this Syracuse team.
