The ACC is struggling outside of Clemson

I have been thinking on this for a few days now, and guys, the ACC is bad at football this season. Outside of Clemson, the ACC is a big bag of meh. Go ahead and look at the results from the first 2 weeks of this season and go ahead and tell me otherwise. No one wants to hear this, but when 3 of 4 flagship programs are down, the national perception of your league is going to take a hit. One could argue that with Miami and VT being down for so long, that they are not flagship programs any longer but there’s no doubt FSU is different. Let’s take a look at each program.

Georgia Tech is revamping its entire offense. GT’s passing yards leader has 92. Yes, 92 yards passing in 2 games. I don’t know why they didn’t try to get a grad transfer in there for this season and let Collins go out there and get one in the upcoming recruiting class.

Louisville still has issues all over the field and while they played well for a half in that first game against Notre Dame, they couldn’t keep it up. Satterfield’s team will not quit, but he doesn’t have the horses in there yet.

Duke is still in the process of replacing Daniel Jones. Even though they got trampled by Alabama, a lot of teams are going to be in the same shoes as Duke was. No judgment there.

Virginia Tech looks listless and they still have quarterback issues and they need to go ahead and put Quincy Patterson in there and see what they have. Miami seems to have found a QB that is pretty good, however, their offensive line is absolutely terrible.

Wake Forest is 2-0 but they’ve beaten Utah State and Rice, not P5 schools.
UNC has the 2 best wins of the league and Sam Howell looks like a player, but we don’t know how good South Carolina and Miami are. We should find out on Friday when UNC plays Wake.

Pitt is Pitt, they are neither a great team or a terrible team. Pitt looked okay, but the next 2 games they play Penn State and UCF. Their cross over games are Syracuse and Boston College. So, they may be a 6 win team or an 8 win team.

The struggle bus has stopped in Tallahassee and seems to be parking there for a while. Not that long ago, FSU was the flagship program. FSU’s offensive line seems to have not gotten better than it was last season. It looks like it could be a long season in Tallahassee.

Boston College is another team that is just what they are. They remind me a lot of Pitt. They have a good QB as long as he stays healthy, which he has had issues his first 2 seasons in Chesnut Hill. They will probably go to a bowl game, which is solid for where they are.

NC State is an enigma. They seem to have changed their defensive alignment from a 4-2-5 to a 3-3-5. NC State’s defense has looked really really good, except they have played a softer schedule than Wake Forest. State has given up a total of 375
yards in 2 games. Mathew McKay has looked okay in the 2 games, but he has missed open receivers. The running game has looked good, but again, you have to look at the competition.

Syracuse, just might not be as good as everyone thought they were going to be. Syracuse gave up 63 to Maryland. Yes, 63 points is what they allowed to Maryland. And while that is eye-raising, they only scored 20 points. I understand that Syracuse lost Eric Dungey who made that offense go. Everyone thought that Tommy DeVito was going to just pick up that mantle and continue carrying it. Well, if the first 2 games are any indication, he has a long way to go.

Now, it is early in the season, and things might change with teams progressing and figuring things out. However, guys, let’s be honest, the ACC is pretty bad at football this season.
