Georgetown Hoyas Lose in Epically Embarrassing Fashion to DePaul

Good evening, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) fans.  From time to time, I step out of my ACC coverage – and blog about Georgetown men’s basketball (I’m a Georgetown alumnus).  This a gonna be a pretty quick post – a lightening around of quick bullet points).  Here we go:

  • Coming into the game tonight, our friend, @ChrisDobbertean, had Georgetown as one of the first four out of the NCAA tournament.  A couple more conference wins – like vs. DePaul (sitting at 6-10 prior to tonight’s game with Georgetown) and Marquette – would put the Hoyas as a potential NCAA tournament team.  Even if Georgetown lost lost to Marquette, the Hoyas might have been able to make up some ground in the Big East Tournament (but getting a win over DePaul tonight in the regular season was important).
  • The Hoyas – however – decided to look for hotels in Milwaukee (Georgetown plays Marquette on Saturday) instead of getting off the team’s bus tonight for the game vs. DePaul in Chicago, IL.
  • Georgetown lost in epically embarrassing  fashion tonight to DePaul by the score of 101 to 69.   This ties the Hoyas worst loss in more than 40 years (their worst loss in more than 40 years was last year vs. Villanova) – thanks to @BobbyBancroft for tweeting a correction to my post earlier.
  • The Hoyas had absolutely no sense of urgency on offense or defense (none) – which is shocking to me at this time of the year (the Hoyas – for heaven’s sake – are playing for a potential NCAA bid).
  • Georgetown let DePaul hit 3 pointers at a 50% clip (14 of 28).  DePaul’s overall field goal percentage was 49%.  Conversely, Georgetown hit 25% from three point land – and was 35% overall from the field.  Yikes, this is awful.
  • Let’s be clear here, too:  DePaul let off the gas with about six minutes to go in the game.  I’m certain the Blue Demons could have scored 130-140 points in this game.

I don’t think there’s anything else here to do for Georgetown, but maybe quickly forget about this game.

Well said, Dobbertean.

Well said 😉
