A Baker’s Dozen: Coastal Division Columnists and Beat Writers I Would Like To See On The #ACC Network

Good afternoon, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans.  Hope you are well during this snow day if you live in the DC area (and wherever you have bad weather!)  Stay safe and read some @AllSportsDACC content.

With the ACC Network launching on Thursday night, August 22, 2019, we thought it would be a good idea to drop some regional talent that we would like to see have some guest appearances on the channel.  These are the people that have their feet on the ground more than anyone when it comes to the ACC and it’s Coastal Division teams.

  1. David Teel (@DavidTeelatDP) – “The Dean” of the ACC columnists.  No one knows more about the ACC, Virginia Tech, and the University of Virginia than David Teel of the Newport News (VA) Daily Press.  Oh, please make sure you buy his book here.  We did a review of his book here.
  2. Mike Barber (@RTD_MikeBarber) – Mike Barber, ever the consummate professional, covers the Virginia Tech and Virginia beat for the Richmond (VA) Times Dispatch.
  3. Norm Wood (@NormWood) – Norm Wood covers the Virginia Tech, Virginia, and ACC beat for the Newport News, VA Daily Press.
  4. Aaron McFarling @AaronMcFarling) – Aaron McFarling is the lead sports columnist for the Roanoke (VA) Times.  Aaron generally covers Virginia Tech and Virginia – but you’ll also see him write about NASCAR and the Salem Red Sox.
  5. Hank Kurz, Jr. (@HankKurzJr) – Hank Kurz is the Associated Press sports writer for the Commonwealth of Virginia – he covers pretty everything in the state.
  6. Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) – Andy Bitter is the Virginia Tech football beat writer for @TheAthleticCFB.
  7. Ken Sugiura (@ksugiuraajc) – Ken Sugiura is the Georgia Tech football beat writer for the Atlanta Journal – Constitution.
  8. Stephen Wiseman (@SteveWisemanNC) – Stephen Wiseman covers ACC sports (mostly Duke) for the Durham Herald Sun and News and Observer (Raleigh, NC).
  9. Jonathan M. Alexander (@JonMAlexander) – Jonathan Alexander is the University of North Carolina beat writer for the News and Observer (Raleigh, NC).
  10. Jerry DiPaoloa (@JDiPaola_Trib) – Jerry DiPaola covers the University of Pittsburgh football and men’s basketball, the Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers for Trib Total Media.
  11. Susan Miller Degnan (@SMillerDegnan) – Susan Miller Degnan is the University of Miami football beat writer for the Miami (FL) Herald.
  12. Lauren Brownlow (@LEBrownlow) – Lauren Brownlow is a writer for @WRALSportsFan and is a radio personality at @999TheFan.
  13. Ben Swain (@TheBenSwain) – Ben Swain is the co-host of the @SportsChannel8 radio show on @999TheFan.  Their radio show airs from 8 – 10 AM on Saturdays.  He is also the Duke columnist for @WRALSportsFan.

Clearly, the point I’m establishing here is that these folks are true media professionals who are good at what they do.  And you need to thank them for their hard work – and support them. Subscribe to their newspapers!!! Newspapers are everything to our democracy!!  You pay for good journalism – don’t expect it for free. And the ACC Network should utilize the talents of these people.
