Merry Christmas – Thank You, Georgetown University!!

Good afternoon, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans.

Primarily, we blog about ACC sports here at @AllSportsDACC.   We are cognizant of the fact that the greater majority of ACC athletes will never be professional athletes – and one of the major benefits of playing ACC sport is that you get an educational scholarship, which hopefully sets you up for the rest of your adult life.

Many of you that follow me know that, while I talk sparingly about Georgetown University, I am an alumnus – and saw a great story here today.

Imagine spending eleven years in jail for a crime (homicide) that you never committed – that’s what happened to Brian Ferguson, who recently graduated in 2018 from Georgetown.

Ferguson recently received a prestigious Marshall Scholarship to pursue a master’s of comparative social policy at the University of Oxford. Only 48 students across our country receive this award.

He has lofty goals, too, including going to Yale or Georgetown Law School – and:

Career goals: Ferguson hopes to continue his academic career by eventually attending Yale Law School or Georgetown Law. He also would like to establish a social justice consortium of top level universities in countries such as the United Kingdom and Sweden that would work collaboratively to develop policy and create programming designed to remove racial and socioeconomic barriers, especially for those involved in the criminal justice system.

Congratulations, Brian.  Merry Christmas!!
