Who should Louisville look at in their Coaching Search?

Well, it has been a couple of weeks since U of L fired Bobby Petrino and in theory began their coaching search. Now, I know who the next coach of Louisville is going to be. Those who know, understand that Jeff Brohm is Louisville. He played there, his brother played there, his father played there. The Brohm family is from Louisville. The Brohm family IS Louisville football. However, nothing is a done deal, and IF Brohm passes (and I understand that it would be world shattering if Brohm said no). It should also be noted that if Jeff Brohm leaves Purdue, the names I think would be good fits for Louisville are good fits for Purdue.

1. Luke Fickell: I know everyone remembers when he got a shot at Ohio State he didn’t do very well. Fickell went 6-6 in that one interim season that he got when Jim Tressel got fired in 2011. However, Fickell has done really well at University of Cincinnati. UC and U of L pick from the same crop of high school talent. Fickell has those high school contacts in Ohio and Indiana that you need to get talent. Fickell’s teams have always competed and it would probably be a welcomed change from the Patrino era.

2. Dino Babers: I know, he is currently at Syracuse and would be making a move not only within the conference, but within the division. Babers coached at Bowling Green and like Fickell has the recruiting contacts in Ohio that you need to get players at Louisville. He has a noted system and has proven this season that given a few years, he can get it rolling. His teams also compete hard every game and do not quit.

3. Jason Candle. Now, you will see that I have a lot of coaches with ties to coaching in Ohio and Candle is another one. Candle was the OC under Matt Campbell and then succeed him at Toledo. Toledo is a quality team that has a recognizable system that has been proven that it can work. Candle’s name is going to be a hot one if not this year then in the next few.

4. Mike Norvell: The Memphis coach will not be long for Memphis. Norvell again has a system that has been successful in the AAC. Norvell has an explosive offense and has coached a Doak Walker finalist this season and developed Riley Ferguson into a borderline NFL QB.

Look, I know Jeff Brohm is going to take the Louisville job. It’s almost a guarantee. But, if Brohm says no, Louisville could do worse then those names listed above.

@RivalsDave (Dave Lackford ) a Louisville inside says Neal Brown of Troy is also very high on the Cardinal’s list. Keep an eye out for him.
