It’s been quite the spring and summer for the Wolfpack. Dave Doeren and his staff have been really hitting it hard on the recruiting trail. the 2018 class has been ranked anywhere from 23rd-28th nationally. Included in that class are 3 players that were involved in the Army High-School All-American All-Star game. The 2018 has a class that has the star power. So far the 2019 class, has what potentially can be the glue class.
The 2019 class has the highest player ever to commit to NC State, Savion Jackson. Jackson is rated as the No. 31 ranked prospect by ESPN. The previous highest rated prospect to commit to NC State was Mike Glennon who was rated No. 32 by ESPN. Dave Doeren has been raking up the commitments on the defensive line. The impact of having all 4 starters drafted into the NFL cannot be dismissed when Dave Doeren walks into a kid’s living room.
NC State already has 9 commitments from the state of North Carolina. If you don’t understand how important this is, let me put this in context. In a January 2017 article on SBNation, North Carolina was ranked 9th in producing blue-chip players in the nation. You always hear about schools in North Carolina being a sleeping giant. This is based on the amount of talent that North Carolina produces. We might need to change that thinking into NC State being a sleeping giant. NC State is getting a few of the best players in state. Kentavious Street, Darian Roseboro, and Nyhiem Hines all stayed in the state.
I’m not saying that NC State is going to keep every 4 and 5 star kid within the state. However, if they are able to keep more then 2 or 3 then NC State can a handful of these players home, 9 wins a season won’t be the outliers but the expectation.
