Well here we go. It’s time to start ranking the best players in the ACC for the 2018 season. As usual we hope you enjoy the rankings.
Previous and Upcoming Rankings
Quarterbacks | Wide Receivers | Offensive Linemen | Tight Ends |
Defensive Linemen | Linebackers | Cornerbacks | Safeties | Special Teams
1) AJ Dillon, Boston College
Under Steve Addazio, Boston College is getting a reputation for producing some really fine running backs. AJ Dillon might the best of the bunch. Dillon as a freshman ran for 1,589 yards and 14 TDs last year. He has a special combination of speed and power. There are whispers he could put together a 2000+ yard rushing season. He’s that good.
2) Cam Akers, Florida State
Cam Akers lived up to the freshman hype last year, and he’s only touched the surface of his potential. He set a freshman Florida State record for rushing yards with 1,024 yards. Akers is blessed with excellent speed, and will be a great weapon in Will Taggart’s fast paced offense.
3) Travis Etienne, Clemson
Travis Etienne may not even be the starter going into the season at Clemson, but there’s something to be said about a back that scores a touchdown on more than 10% his offensive touches. On just 107 rushing attempts with 5 receptions, Etienne had 13 touchdowns and averaged a whopping 7.2 yards per carry. He’s a threat to score every time he touches the ball.
4) KirVonte Benson, Georgia Tech
Who is the 2nd leading returning rusher in the ACC? It’s KirVonte Benson of Georgia Tech. Benson has 1,053 yards on the ground last year. Benson also had 6 TDs. He’s a steady reliable back that is very effective in short yardage. If he stays healthy Benson could approach a 1,500 season.
5) Travis Homer, Miami
When Miami starting running back Mark Walton went down with injury last year, some thought Miami’s running game would struggle. Travis Homer emerged and made sure that didn’t happen. He finished the season with 966 rushing yards and averaged nearly 6 yards a carry. He’s considered a 4th or 5th round NFL draft pick, and a good season could move him a couple of rounds higher.
