Recently we reviewed the ACC’s best 25 OOC wins of the decade so far. Some really good wins got left off the list, so I decided for a little off-season reading to give you the best five OOC wins for each ACC team so far this decade
Click below for each ACC team
Virginia Tech | Georgia Tech | UNC | Virginia | Miami | Pittsburgh | Louisville | Clemson | Wake Forest | Florida State | Boston College | Syracuse | NC State
1.Duke 41 Northwestern 17 – September 9, 2017
I bet you didn’t realize when Duke pounded Northwestern in Durham early in the 2017 that it would be their best OOC win so far in the decade. This Northwestern team turned out to be really good. Their only other losses were to top 10 teams Wisconsin and Penn State. The Wildcats finished ranked #17 in the country with a 10-3 record. Daniel Jones showed how good he can be throwing for 305 yards and running for 108 with 2 TD through the air and 2 on the ground.
2. Duke 38 Notre Dame 35 – September 24, 2016
Duke never got enough credit for walking into South Bend and leaving with a 38-35 win in front of 80,000 Irish fans. The win for Duke sent the Notre Dame season into a tailspin they never recovered from. The game became a what is wrong with Notre Dame when it should have been a referendum on how far the Duke program has risen under David Cutcliffe.
3. Duke 44 Indiana 41 – December 26, 2015
Beating Indiana isn’t usually all that noteworthy, but when it is your first bowl victory in over 50 years then it’s a really big deal. The win was Duke’s 8th of the season and capped a 3 year run where Duke won 27 games to go along with a Coastal Division title in 2013.
4. Duke 36 Northern Illinois 14 – December 26, 2017
Duke’s bowl victory over Northern Illinois finished off a 7-6 year where the Blue Devils proved that the previous year’s 4-8 record wasn’t going to again become the norm. Duke at one point sat 4-6 before winning their final 3 games. Northern Illinois was a solid 8-4 team that had finished 2nd in the MAC in 2017.
5. Duke 35 Navy 7 – October 12, 2013
One of the earliest signs in 2013 that Duke had a chance at special season was a blowout 35-7 win over Navy. This Navy team went 9-4 and had wins over power 5 opponents Pittsburgh and Indiana. This was a solid Midshipmen team coached by Ken Niumatalolo.
