Was loss to Boston College, the last straw in Dave Doeren’s NC State tenure?

This won’t be a long post, because there isn’t much to add. Boston College hadn’t won an ACC football game since November 29, 2014. Saturday they beat NC State 21-14 in an embarrassing home loss for the Wolfpack. I’m not taking anything away from BC. Those players could have quit long ago, but they didn’t. Steve Addiazo has his own hotseat issues, but he didn’t lose his Boston College team and he didn’t lose to Dave Doeren and NC State. They went to Raleigh and got the well earned win.

NC State was a team that came within seconds of beating Cemson 3 weeks ago, but has now fallen apart. They were destroyed at Louisville in a largely un-competitive game, and now there is defeat at the hands of Boston College. You have to look at totality of the Dave Doeren tenure at NC State. Steve Addiazo lost 12 ACC games in a row, and he has 9 total ACC wins in 3 1/2 years. Dave Doeren has 7. There are 7 ACC wins and a whopping 21 ACC losses for Dave Doeren. He’s now 22-24 overall in those seasons.

Who knows what would have happened if NC State would have beat Clemson, but they didn’t and there may not be a win left on the schedule. There’s still FSU, resurgent Syracuse, Miami, and at UNC. Does Doeren need to get NC State to a bowl, or is it too late?

With few positives over the last 3 1/2 years, it seems the NC State program is stuck going nowhere. Maybe there will be a late season winning streak, but it does seem like we’re getting close to pulling the plug on the Dave Doeren era.
