Louisville with breakthrough win joins playoff chase by destroying Florida State.

Louisville v Purdue

We didn’t know quite what to make of Louisville before Saturday. Sure QB Lamar Jackson had rolled up yards against a bad Kentucky team and against Texas A&M in the bowl game last year. This season UNC-Charlotte and Syracuse turned into a highlight reels for Jackson, but this was Florida State coming to town.

These were the number 2 ranked Seminoles, that in game 1 spotted a top 15 Ole Miss team a 22 point lead and promptly won 45-34. Florida State has a very good QB of their own in Deondre Francois and arguably the best RB in the country with Dalvin Cook. We know how the Seminoles recruit, and what kind of program they have. Even with the loss of All-American DB Derwin James, the Noles would still be a great challenge for Louisville to beat even at home.

Not only Louisville beat Florida State, they absolutely destroyed the Noles in a way that left FSU fans heads spinning. The final score was an astonishing 63-20 beatdown of the Noles. If you watched the game it wasn’t that close either. With Gameday in attendance, Louisville announced to the college football world the ACC was no longer just Clemson and Florida State.

Lamar Jackson moved to the front of the Heisman race with 5 more TDs, and over 350 yards of offense. Jackson made the Florida State defense look helpless. He’s a freak of an athlete, who is just playing at an exceptionally high level. There’s not a quarterback in college football currently playing better.

This was a breakthrough win for the Cardinals. We all knew this was a good program. Bobby Petrino is a great offensive mind as a head coach. There is NFL talent on Louisville’s team, but were they ready to be a legit playoff team? The answer is a resounding YES.

Anyone care to argue that Louisville shouldn’t ranked in the top 3 next week? I thought Louisville was a year away, but they have arrived now. What surprised me the most today was how good the Cardinal’s defense was. They shutdown a potent FSU offense today. The Noles didn’t know what hit them.

Consider the Cardinals in the thick of the playoff chase now. Enjoy it Louisville fans, your team was incredible today. I think Louisville just scored again.
