ACC Bowl Projections for November 22, 2011

I said last week that the bowl picture was coming into focus. Well after Clemson’s loss to NC State, Virginia’s win over Florida State, and Miami deciding to forgo a bowl game we have  some shakeups.

Advocare V100 Independence Bowl
December 26, 2011  Shreveport, LA, 5:00 pm ESPN
Mountain West No. 3 vs. ACC No. 7
Projection: Wyoming vs. Wake Forest

Wake Forest still on course for an Independence Bowl bid.

Belk Bowl
December 27, 2011  Charlotte, NC, 8:00 pm ESPN
Big East No. 3 vs. ACC No. 5
Projection: West Virginia vs. North Carolina St.

The Belk Bowl is back in play for NC State after their stirring win over Clemson. They have to beat Maryland to end up here. Winner 3 out of their last 4 will have Wolfpack fans feeling pretty good.

Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman
December 28, 2011  Washington, DC, 4:30 pm ESPN
ACC No. 8 vs. Navy (or C-USA if Navy not eligible)
Projection:  North Carolina vs. Air Force

It seems C-USA or Navy won’t be available to play North Carolina. The Heels barring some upsets will have a tough time getting any higher than this.

Champs Sports Bowl
December 29, 2011 Orlando, FL, 5:30 pm ESPN
ACC No. 3 vs. Big East No. 2
Projection: Florida State vs. Notre Dame

This is still the game the Champs Sports Bowl wants, but if FSU loses to Florida they might be forced to go with another ACC team. Losing to Virginia put another dent in Florida State’s season.

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl
December 30, 2011   Nashville, TN, 6:40 pm ESPN
ACC No. 6 vs. SEC No. 7
Projection: Georgia Tech vs Tennessee

This isn’t a negative reflection on Georgia Tech. This is due to Virginia’s rise, and the Belk Bowl’s penchant for North Carolina schools. They’d be very happy with this matchup in Nashville. If the Jacket’s beat Georgia though they might be too attractive for the Belk or Sun Bowl to pass up.

Hyundai Sun Bowl
December 31, 2011  El Paso, TX, 2:00 pm CBS
ACC No. 4 vs. Pac-12 No. 4
Projection: Virginia vs Washington

Hey Virginia fans for your remarkable season, you get sent half way across the country.

Chick-fil-A Bowl
December 31, 2011 Atlanta, GA, 7:30 pm ESPN
ACC No. 2 vs. SEC No. 3, 4 or 5
Projection: Clemson vs. Auburn

We’ve played this game before, but it’s bound to sell tickets.

Discover Orange Bowl
January 4, 2012  Miami Gardens, FL, 8:00 pm ESPN
ACC No. 1 vs. BCS at-large
Projection: Virginia Tech vs. Rutgers

Virginia Tech ends up in a familiar spot. They still have to get through Virginia before even winning division. They Hokies will have to earn it.
